Vanessa Williams Gets a Fairy Tale Valentine at Shrek

The cast of Shrek the Musical took a break its mission of “bringing ugly back” and held court with Vanessa Williams on February 14, otherwise known as Valentine’s Day. The pop star/actress/Broadway performer has more in common with an ogre like Shrek than one would think. No stranger to twisted fairy tales, she starred in the 2002 revival of Into the Woods, the musical that gave those old Grimm fairy tales a subversive twist. And beautiful as she is, it’s not like “ugly” is a foreign concept to Williams. After all, that wicked witch of a boss she plays on Ugly Betty is raising Hades on a weekly basis.
