Though the masses know Peter Gallagher best as dreamy dad Sandy Cohen on TV's The O.C. and for movies ranging from Sex, Lies and Videotape to Center Stage, theater people embrace the star of Mike Nichols' Broadway revival of The Country Girl as one of their own. A stage vet of three decades, Gallagher won both of Broadway's newcomer prizes in the early 1980s a Theatre World Award for A Doll's Life and Clarence Derwent Award for The Real Thing, directed by Nichols. Musical fans fondly remember his Sky in Guys and Dolls, and he snagged a Tony nomination as Edmund opposite Jack Lemmon in Long Day's Journey Into Night. In other words, the vicissitudes of Broadway previews are nothing new for Gallagher—which is a good thing, since The Country Girl has undergone more rejiggering than one might expect for a 1950 drama from Clifford Odets. The Country Girl Sets Dates and Announces Supporting Players

Mike Nichols' Broadway revival of The Country Girl, starring the previously announced Morgan Freeman, Frances McDormand and Peter Gallagher, has set an opening date of April 27 at the Bernard B. Morgan Freeman, Frances McDormand and Peter Gallagher are set to star in Mike Nichols' Broadway revival of Clifford Odets' The Country Girl. The production is planned to open at a Shubert theater in April 2008.
