Christian Slater, who is currently appearing on Broadway in The Glass Menagerie, was arrested early this morning and charged with third-degree sexual abuse. The charge was made by a woman who accused Slater of touching her buttocks without consent near 93rd Street and Third Avenue, according to an Associated Press report.

This is not Slater's first brush with the law. He was arrested in 1989, when--while allegedly driving under the influence--he led police on a car chase through West Hollywood that ended in him crashing his car into a pole. In 1994 he was arrested when he tried to board a commercial plane with a 9mm pistol. Three years later he was in court again--this time after he was arrested for starting a fight at a bar. He served 59 days in prison following that last arrest.

Slater was held overnight at the 19th precinct in Manhattan. He is expected to be arraigned this morning.

A Glass Menagerie spokesperson said Slater is expected to perform tonight.
