The Lieutenant of Inishmore Story

Award-winning playwright Martin McDonagh's (The Pillowman, The Beauty Queen of Leenane) scorchingly black comedy is set in 1993 in County Galway on the rocky island of Inishmore, off the coast of Ireland. Padraic is a terrorist with no feeling for those he blows up, but has an obsessive attachment to Thomas, his beloved cat. But someone has killed poor wee Thomas. Was it an accident or an execution? Either way, the death must be concealed before 'Mad Padraic' returns from a stint of torture and bombing. Otherwise the recriminations will be horrifying. It all builds to a stunning surprise that has audiences laughing in disbelief at every performance. (Can you keep a secret? Don't reveal the ending once you've seen the show!) The winner of London's Olivier Award, The New York Times' Ben Brantley calls it, “criminally funny. Appallingly entertaining.” USA Today's Elysa Gardner says it is, “brilliant comedy, wildly entertaining.” And, David Cote of Time Out New York says it's “the most ripsnorting, hilarious comedy in New York right now.” Don't miss it!
