About This Gallery

While many families spent a warm summer night out at the ballgame, on July 10, one local baseball legend and his family took a break from the ballpark and headed to the Minskoff Theatre for an evening of Disney magic at The Lion King. Superstar pitcher Johan Santana of the New York Mets and his family traded Shea Stadium for the African Pride Lands, enjoying the rhythms of the Savannah and the onstage spectacle of the popular Broadway hit. Santana, who came to the Mets from the Minnesota Twins this season, enjoyed the perks of his new hometown, bringing wife Yasmile and their two young daughters backstage after the show to meet King stars Dashaun Young and Kissy Simmons (who were as excited to meet the pro-ball star as he was to meet them). So were Santana and company saying "Hakuna Matata" by the end of the night? Click here to see for yourself!
