Little Mermaid Delays Opening to 2008

Disney's The Little Mermaid has rescheduled its opening night to January 10, 2008. The new musical had played five previews at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre before Broadway stagehands went on strike and had been scheduled to open on December 6.

Denver native Sierra Boggess has won the coveted role of Ariel in the upcoming stage production of The Little Mermaid, based on the Disney film and Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale. Disney Theatricals has chosen the director for its in-development stage musical of The Little Mermaid. Broadway neophyte Francesca Zambello will helm the production, which will feature scenic design by George Tsypin, according to a production spokesperson.
