Citing a need for additional technical rehearsals, The Public Theater has moved its scheduled first preview of playwright Craig Lucas’ The Singing Forest back by three days. The new play, directed by Mark Wing-Davey, was originally slated to begin performances April 7 and open on April 27. It will now now begin previews April 10, with opening night set for April 28.
The Singing Forest stars Academy Award winner Olympia Dukakis, as well as Tony Award nominee Jonathan Groff, Mark Blum, Rob Campbell, Louis Cancelmi, Pierre Epstein, Randy Harrison, Deborah Offner and Susan Pourfar.
In The Singing Forest, Lucas investigates how history collides with the human heart. The Riemans are your typical American family: They haven’t spoken to each other in decades. Severed by deeply buried secrets from the Holocaust, they are desperate to stay out of contact with each other. Their story takes you on a passage from today's world of Starbucks, celebrity and therapy to Freud's inner circle in Vienna and to Paris at the end of World War II.
The show features scenic design by John McDermott, costumes by Gabriel Berry, lighting design by Japhy Weideman and original music and sound design by John Gromada.
