A new musical telling the story of legendary composers Irving Berlin and Scott Joplin.
Roundabout Theater Company, repped this season by shows like the Tony Award-nominated revivals of Pal Joey and Waiting for Godot will be doing something totally new this summer: presenting its first off-Broadway musical The Laura Pels Theatre. The piece, about music prodigy Scott Joplin and famed composer Irving Berling (“White Christmas,” anyone?), imagines a meeting between the pair of musicians while presenting their contributions to toe-tapping musical genre ragtime. Michael Boatman (the HBO series Ali$$, Broadway’s Master Harold…and the boys) stars as Joplin, while Michael Therriault (Fiddler on the Roof, The Lord of the Rings) takes on Berlin.
