About This Gallery

The Gershwin Theatre is usually abuzz with the workings of Wicked’s Oz—octave defying solos, dancing through life, the usual—but things were a bit different at the famed theater on January 12, when the cast joined together with local supporters for its Defying Inequality benefit, a gala event of cabaret performances to support civil rights and equality across the nation. And the Broadway cast wasn’t the only one rocking: across the country, the Los Angeles, Chicago and National Touring companies of the smash hit musical were doing the same thing in their respective cities (the touring cast in Louisville), raising funds for four charitable organizations which protect the rights of the gay and lesbian community. The NYC party featured incoming Elphaba Nicole Parker, Broadway alums Marty Thomas and Kathy Deitch, and recording artists
