Xanadu Cast Recording Set, with Cheyenne Jackson as Sonny

Three months after opening on Broadway, the cast of Xanadu will record its cast album on October 29 for PS Classics. The recording will feature the opening night cast, including Kerry Butler, Cheyenne Jackson, Tony Roberts, Mary Testa and Jackie Hoffman and featuring Curtis Holbrook, Anika Larsen, Kenita Miller and Andre Ward.

Xanadu, which opened at the Helen Hayes Theatre on July 10, has a book by Douglas Carter Beane, music and lyrics by Jeff Lynne and John Farrar and is directed by Christopher Ashley. Eric Stern is musical director. The PS Classics recording will be produced by Jeffrey Lesser, whose extensive credits include the soundtrack for The Lord of the Rings and cast albums for tick, tick..BOOM!, Parade and The Last 5 Years.

In the months immediately following Xanadu's opening night, there had been speculation that James Carpinello, who departed the show during previews after injuring his leg, would somehow be included on the original cast album. The producers recently announced that Carpinello would not return to the Broadway production and that Jackson will remain with the company indefinitely.

The Xanadu CD is expected to be available in stores on January, 2008, though it will be available exclusively at the PS Classics website, the Xanadu website and at the Helen Hayes Theatre by the first week of December.
