The member-bending performance piece Puppetry of the Penis is returning to New York after a seven-year absence. The show will play a limited engagement at the 45 Bleecker Theatre beginning August 4, running through August 30.
Puppetry showcases an ensemble of male players displaying the dexterity of their, er, members, shaping, folding and manipulating them into the shapes and likenesses of food items, wildlife and international landmarks. The cast features Rich Binning, Chris Cannon, Simon Morley and Justin Morley.
The show was originally created by Simon Morley in 1996 as a concept for a cheeky calendar. The resulting comic show has since played across the globe, hitting locales ranging from Britain to Australia to Ireland and beyond. Puppetry of the Penis, featuring penile puppeteer Morley, little brother Justin and pal David Friend, opened at New York’s John Houseman Theatre on October 5, 2001, closing just over a year later on November 3, 2002.
