If there's anything that can bring out the theater community's brightest even in the dead of winter it's a new comedy, as Second Stage's off-Broadway world premiere of Mr. and Mrs. Fitch proved on February 22. The new show boasts star power with Tony Award winners John Lithow and Jennifer Ehle taking center stage as the production's titular pair. The tongue-twisting two-hander, about two verbose gossip columnists who create an imaginary celebrity to save their failing column, showcases the comic handiwork of playwright Douglas Carter Beane. Toss in director Scott Ellis, and it's no wonder stars like Victor Garber, Cynthia Nixon, Bill Irwin and Andrea Martin braved the cold for a chance to laugh away their winter blues.
