John Logan’s Red began previews at Broadway’s John Golden Theatre on March 11. Though stars Alfred Molina and Eddie Redmayne have now been formally introduced to Broadway audiences, they wanted to extend the same courtesy to the theater press. On March 18, the actors and director Michael Grandage met writers and photographers at the Golden to discuss the acclaimed London import. Red takes a look at real-life expressionist painter Mark Rothko after he lands the biggest commission in the history of modern art, a series of murals for New York’s famed Four Seasons Restaurant. In the two fascinating years that follow, Rothko works feverishly with his young assistant, Ken, in his studio on the Bowery. But when Ken gains the confidence to challenge him, Rothko faces the agonizing possibility that his crowning achievement could also become his undoing. Come along and meet the stars of this provocative new show!
