Shannen Doherty, Ralph Macchio and Mario Cantone will lead an industry reading of Charles Messina's Broadway-bound comedy, A Room of My Own, on September 20. The reading is presented by the Bleecker Street Theater Company at 45 Bleecker.
A Room of My Own recounts the playwright's adolescence growing up in a Greenwich Village studio apartment with his eccentric Italian-American family.
Doherty is best known for her TV stint as Brenda Walsh on Beverly Hills, 90210 and its subsequent relaunch 90210. Her other TV credits include Charmed, Dancing with the Stars and North Shore. Film fans know Macchio as the original Karate Kid. His other TV and film credits include Eight is Enough, The Outsiders, My Cousin Vinny and Ugly Betty. He appeared on Broadway in Cuba and His Teddy Bear and in off-Broadway's Magic Hands Freddy. Cantone brought his solo comedy show, Laugh Whore, to Broadway in 2004. He previously appeared on the Great White Way in Assassins, The Violet Hour, An Evening with Mario Cantone, The Tempest and Love! Valour! Compassion!
The reading, directed by the playwright, will also feature Gina Ferranti, Valerie Smaldone, Kendra Jain, Adam Trese and John Barbieri. The event is being produced by Robert Nicotra and Josselyne Herman-Saccio. Ted Kurdyla is the executive producer
