Injured Spider-Man Actor Christopher W. Tierney in Stable Condition

Spider-Man, Turn Off the Dark ensemble member Christopher W. Tierney, who was injured during a December 20 performance of the musical, is reportedly in stable condition after being admitted to Bellevue Hospital. 

Tierney, who performs stunts dressed in the title character's signature suit, "fell several feet from a platform approximately seven minutes before the end of the performance, and the show was stopped," production spokesperson Rick Miramontez announced. 

On December 21, show star Reeve Carney tweeted, "Chris Tierney, you are my hero. Your fearlessness, inspiring talent and shining spirit are lights to us all. We love you so much, man."

Spider-Man marks the Broadway debut for Tierney, who has toured with Movin' Out and appeared in the Toronto production of Dirty Dancing. He also appeared in Spider-Man director Julie Taymor's 2007 movie musical Across the Universe.

There is no word yet on when performances of the show will resume. Actors' Equity Association released a statement saying it "is working with management and the Department of Labor to ensure that performances will not resume until back-up safety measures are in place."

Spider-Man, Turn Off the Dark began performances at the Foxwoods Theatre on November 28. The show, directed by Tony winner Taymor, features a book by Taymor and Glen Berger and music and lyrics by Bono and The Edge. It is scheduled to officially open on February 7, 2011.
