Government, love and religion are the butt of the joke at off-Broadway’s Westside Theatre, where irreverent comedy The Last Smoker in America opens on August 2. The rock musical stars Farah Alvin as Pam, the last remaining smoker in a futuristic America where smoking has become an illegal offense. As if quitting weren’t hard enough, Pam also has to deal with an unemployed husband who wants to be a rock star (John Bolton), a video game addicted son (Jake Boyd) and her religious zealot neighbor (Avenue Q’s Natalie Venetia Belcon), who won’t stop until all smokers are wiped out. Broadway.com has your first look at the show, which features a book and lyrics by Tony nominee Bill Russell (Side Show), music by Peter Melnick and direction by Andy Sandberg.
