The futuristic rock musical The Last Smoker in America opened off-Broadway in a blaze of glory on August 2. The musical, directed and produced by Andy Sandberg, is set in a not-too-distant America in which smoking is illegal and follows the struggles of one woman—the last smoker in America. Starring Farah Alvin, Natalie Venetia Belcon, John Bolton and Jake Boyd, the The Last Smoker in America features a book by Side Show Tony nominee Bill Russell and music by Peter Melnick. Russell’s former Side Show star Alice Ripley joined fellow Broadway vets Danny Burstein, Hunter Bell and more to celebrate the new musical’s opening.
