The National Theatre is looking to transfer The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time to the West End, according to the Daily Mail. Simon Stephen's stage adaptation of Mark Haddon’s novel is currently running at the National’s Cottesloe Theatre through October 27. Though the National is currently in discussions with various West End theaters, their concern is there may not theaters large enough for the show’s design and special effects. Directed by Marianne Elliott, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time will be broadcast throughout North America as part of National Theatre Live beginning in September.
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time follows a 15 year-old boy named Christopher. When Mrs. Shears’ dog is found dead, speared with a garden fork, Christopher is under suspicion. He records each fact in the book he is writing to solve the mystery of who murdered the animal. He has an extraordinary brain, exceptional at math while ill-equipped to interpret everyday life. He has never ventured alone beyond the end of his road, he detests being touched and he distrusts strangers. His detective work, forbidden by his father, takes him on a frightening journey that upturns his world.
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time features set design by Bunny Christie, lighting design by Paule Constable, music by Adrian Sutton, sound design by Ian Dickinson, fight direction by Kate Waters and movement direction by Scott Graham and Steven Hoggett for Frantic Assembly.
New York audiences can check out screenings of the show at the Brooklyn Academy of Music (September 8), NYU Skirball Center for the Arts (September 10) and Symphony Space (September 20).
