The Royal Shakespeare Company’s West End production of Matilda the Musical will be featured in the 2013 edition of Guinness Book of World Records for “Most Laurence Olivier Award Wins.” The hit West End musical won a total of seven 2012 Olivier Awards including Best New Musical. The title for “Most Laurence Olivier Award Wins” was previously held by another RSC production, Nicholas Nickleby, which held the record over 20 years with its six Olivier wins. The 2013 edition of the popular book will be released in September of next year.
Directed by Matthew Warchus, Matilda is based on Roald Dahl’s 1988 book of the same name. In Matilda, a girl unleashes magical powers on her nasty parents and evil headmistress. The production premiered at the Courtyard Theatre in Stratford-upon-Avon in November 2010 before transferring to the West End’s Cambridge Theatre on October 25, 2011. A Broadway production of the hit musical will open on April 11, 2013 at the Shubert Theatre
