Richard Schiff on Hanging with Al Pacino & the Men of Glengarry: 'There's a Lot of Muscle in That Room'

Richard Schiff is prepping to make his Broadway debut in the upcoming revival of David Mamet’s testosterone-heavy play Glengarry Glen Ross. The show's all-male cast, which includes the legendary Al Pacino and Tony nominee Bobby Cannavale, has made for quite a different working environment for The West Wing actor.

“It’s pretty fascinating to be inside that chaos,” Schiff recently told Broadway.com of the show's current rehearsal process. “But we’re surprisingly getting along great. I say surprisingly because it’s all men. There’s a lot of muscle in that room."

Set in a Chicago real estate office, Glengarry reveals the depths men will sink to in their cutthroat quest to win a sales contest. So is the competitveness between their characters rubbing off on the actors at all?

“We just don’t talk to each other,” joked Schiff. “No, hanging with Al Pacino and these guys every day – it’s a lot of fun. I didn’t expect it to be this much fun. It’s a phenomenal and amazing play. It’s quite a piece of music.”

Glengarry Glen Ross begins its run on October 16 at the Schoenfeld Theatre, with opening night set for November 11.
