As if a fifth Tony weren't enough, the accolades just keep on rolling in for Audra McDonald! The Drama League will honor the Porgy and Bess actress at their black-tie gala on February 11. Titled Musical Celebration of Broadway, the event will be held at the Pierre Hotel and feature performances by stage and screen stars paying tribute to McDonald by singing songs from her career. No word yet on which stars will be participating in the show.
Lucky attendees can expect to hear selections from musicals like Carousel, Ragtime, Porgy and Bess, Marie Christine and 110 In The Shade as well McDonald's operatic and concert work. McDonald has also released the albums Way Back To Paradise, How Glory Goes, Happy Songs and Build A Bridge.
The gala evening will support the Drama League’s educational initiatives for promising young artists. Previous years’ honorees include Tony winners Kristin Chenoweth, Liza Minnelli, Angela Lansbury, Patti LuPone, Andrew Lloyd Webber, Chita Rivera and Terrence McNally.
Congrats, Audra! The evening is sure to be one classy affair, so let's celebrate Audra's ability to clown around by reliving her rendition of the SpongeBob SquarePants theme song on Side by Side with Susan Blackwell.
