The Wyeth clan is bringing their family drama to their home state as the California-set play Other Desert Cities is set to make its West Coast premiere at Los Angeles' Ahmanson Theatre. JoBeth Williams, Justin Long, Robin Weigert, Robert Foxworth and Jeannie Berlin will star as the dysfunctional family at the center of Jon Robin Baitz Tony-nominated play. Directed by Robert Egan, the Center Theatre Group production will run November 28 through January 6, with an opening set for December 9.
Other Desert Cities tells the story of a once promising novelist (Weigert) who returns home after a six year absence to spend the holidays with her parents (Williams and Foxworth), her brother (Long) and her aunt (Berlin). When she announces she is about to publish a memoir focusing on an explosive chapter in the family’s history, the reunion is thrown into turmoil.
Williams' popular screen credits include The Big Chill and Poltergeist. Long made his Broadway debut in Seminar. His films include He’s Just Not That Into You, Drag Me to Hell and Going The Distance. Weigert has appeared off-Broadway in Angels in America and Madame Melville and on TV in Deadwood and Sons of Anarchy. Foxworth has appeared on Broadway in The Crucible, Twelve Angry Men, Ivanov and August: Osage County. His film and TV credits include the Transformers series, Falcon Crest, Six Feet Under and The West Wing. Berlin's screen credits include Margaret and The Heartbreak Kid.
Other Desert Cities enjoyed a sold-out premiere at Lincoln Center Theater in December 2010. The drama then played Broadway’s Booth Theater from October 2011 to June 2012. The Broadway production was nominated for five Tony Awards, including Best Play. Actress Judith Light took home the award for her portrayal of Silda Grauman.
The Los Angeles production will feature set design by Takeshi Kata, costume design by Alex Jaeger, lighting design by Lap Chi Chu and sound design by Adam Phalen.
