Weekend Poll Top Three: Fans Want Hitchcock's Psycho to Terrify Broadway

With plans scrapped for the Broadway premiere of Rebecca, and two new movies about the life of Alfred Hitchcock on the horizon, Broadway.com asked readers which of the famed director's thrillers should be adapted for Broadway. The votes have been counted. Take a look below at which classics from the Master of Suspense fans most want to be scared by on stage!

1. Psycho - 27%
Hitchcock's best known film initially received mixed reviews when it was released in 1960, but outstanding box office returns and Oscar nominations helped make the flick a horror classic. The shower murder of Janet Leigh's character is solidified as one of the most famous scenes in cinema history. The new film Hitchcock (in theaters on November 23) centers around the relationship between Hitchcock and his wife, Alma Reville, during the filming of Psycho. The movie stars Oscar winners Anthony Hopkins and Helen Mirren and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof's Scarlett Johansson as Janet Leigh. 


2. Rear Window - 25%
The 1954 suspense chiller, starring James Stewart and Grace Kelly, ranks as number 14 on AFI's 100 Years...100 Thrills list. Set in the confines of Stewart's small Greenwich Village apartment, the film follows the wheelchair-bound photographer as he spies on a neighbor after witnessing some suspicious behavior through his apartment window.


3. The Birds - 10%
One of Hitchcock's final films, The Birds is set in a small California town that is suddenly attacked by violent birds. The film introduced audiences to Tippi Hedren and is the subject of the new HBO movie The Girl, starring Toby Jones as Hitchcock and Sienna Miller as Hedren. The Girl explores Hitchcock's odd fasination with Hendred behind the scenes of 1963 hit film.
