Will a Nirvana Musical About Courtney Love and Kurt Cobain Rock Broadway?

Is Courtney Love coming to Broadway? Not quite, but her life story might be in the form of a musical about her late husband Kurt Cobain and his iconic band Nirvana.

Music manager Sam Lutfi revealed that he and Love “are currently working on a possible motion picture or Broadway musical based on the Nirvana catalogue, based on her life and Kurt Cobain’s,” reports the New York Daily News.

Lutfi exposed the plans while testifying under oath in a defamation lawsuit against his former client, Britney Spears. According to the report, Lutfi admitted that he currently co-manages Love, who was married to the late Nirvana singer before he killed himself in 1994. After the trial, Lutfi refused to let slip any more details about the planned venture.

“She’s been talking about doing a movie or play about her life with Kurt for a long time,” said one source, adding, “So far, nothing has materialized from it… It’s been her dream to get her side of the story out.”

Nirvana formed in 1987 and went on to establish itself as one of the most famous grunge bands in the world, releasing a number of successful songs like “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” “Heart-Shaped Box,” “About A Girl,” “Come As You Are” and “Lithium.” Love has been embroiled in several legal battles with the surviving members of the band over song rights. She recently decided to sell a significant portion of the rights to Nirvana’s catalogue to Primary Wave Music Publishing.
