It’s the early 1950s in the American heartland, and a dashing young drifter has come to town and sends the women of Independence, Kansas, reeling. That’s the story of Picnic, William Inge’s Pultizer Prize-winning dramedy that will be revived on Broadway by Roundabout Theatre Company with a gorgeous cast that promises to bring the rogue love story to vibrant life. Theater vets Ellen Burstyn, Reed Birney, Sebastian Stan, Elizabeth Marvel and Madeleine Martin join Broadway newcomers Maggie Grace, Mare Winningham and Ben Rappaport in the Sam Gold-directed production, which begins at the American Airlines Theatre on December 14. The handsome company made their debut in front of the press on November 29—and boy, do we want to share a picnic blanket with them!
