Spider-Man, Turn Off The Dark co-book writer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa has penned the script for a remake of MGM’s cult horror flick The Town That Dreaded Sundown, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The movie will be produced by Jason Blum (Paranormal Activity) and American Horror Story and Glee creator Ryan Murphy. Alfonso Gomez-Rejon is in talks to direct the film, the original of which was first released in 1976 and is widely regarded as one of the first found-footage horror movies.
The Town That Dreaded Sundown tells the “true” story of a serial killer named the Phantom Killer who murdered several people in a string of communities in and around Texarkana, TX in 1946. The original film used documentary style footageand voice-overs, which will reportedly be used in MGM’s new reboot.
Aguirre-Sacasa is a co-producer on Glee and the now-defunct drama Big Love. He recently penned the screenplay for the upcoming remake of Carrie, starring Julianne Moore and Chloe Grace Moretz. His plays include Good Boys and True and Based on a Totally True Story.
