Two-time Tony nominee John Leguizamo will co-create and star in a new, untitled pilot for ABC, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The half-hour pilot will center on a Latin guy from the Bronx (Leguizamo) who married a rich woman, and is now raising their two children on Manhattan’s snooty Upper West Side. Leguizamo’s character struggles with fitting in, losing touch with his roots and bringing up his kids in this microcosm of wealth and privilege.
Last year, ABC passed on another Leguizamo-driven pilot, King of Van Nuys. Leguizamo last appeared on Broadway in his 2011 solo show Ghetto Klown. He earned Best Actor and Best Play Tony nominations for Freak. On Broadway he also wrote and starred in Sexaholix and headlined the short-lived revival of American Buffalo. His film and TV credits include Too Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar, Moulin Rouge!, Ice Age, William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet and ER.
