British astrologer and Strictly Come Dancing contestant Russell Grant will miss the opening night of the West End dance spectacular Midnight Tango. Grant slipped on black ice during rehearsal for the show and injured his ankle. No word yet on when he will return to the production.
“We are so sorry that our dear friend Russell can’t join us on stage to perform on the opening night of Midnight Tango,” the show’s stars Vincent Simone and Flavia Cacace said in a statement. “But we look forward to having him join us in the show as soon as he is able to perform again. We wish him a very speedy recovery.”
The Tango dance-based musical is playing a five-week engagement at the West End’s Phoenix Theatre through March 2. The show will then launch a national U.K. tour.
Grant skyrocketed to fame as the Astrologer Royal to the late Queen Mother. As an actor, he appeared on TV's Canterbury Tales and made his West End debut in the musical Tom Brown’s Schooldays. His other West End and national tour credits include The Wizard of Oz, Camille, Hans Andersen and Me And My Gal. Grant also recently appeared on the reality TV program Celebrity Fit Club.
