Jake Gyllenhaal & Chris Pine in Talks to Play Princes in Film Adaptation of Into the Woods

Hollywood heartthrobs Jake Gyllenhaal and Chris Pine are currently in talks to play Cinderella’s Prince and Rapunzel’s Prince, respectively, in the previously announced Into the Woods film, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Directed by Rob Marshall, the movie adaptation of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine’s 1986 musical is slated to star Meryl Streep as the Witch. Johnny Depp is also reportedly in talks to play the Wolf, according to the trade paper.

A reimagining of classic fairy tales, Into the Woods tells the story of the Baker and his wife, who make a deal with an evil witch (Streep) in order to conceive. Their journey into the woods brings the couple face-to-face with a bevy of fairy tale characters, including Red Riding Hood, Cinderella, and Jack and his magical beans.

Gyllenhaal made his off-Broadway debut in If There Is I Haven’t Found It Yet. After childhood roles in City Slickers and October Sky, he rose to popularity after starring in the cult film Donnie Darko. His additional film credits include Source Code, Jarhead, The Good Girl, End of Watch and Brokeback Mountain, for which he garnered an Academy Award nomination.

Best known as James T. Kirk in the 2009 film Star Trek, and its forthcoming sequel Star Trek Into Darkness, Pine’s many film roles include Just My Luck, Smokin’ Aces, Unstoppable, This Means War and The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement.
