Pop the Champagne! Broadway Legend Chita Rivera to Ring In New Year's Eve at 54 Below

Chita Rivera is on a mission to make sure you ring in 2014 in style! The two-time Tony-winning Broadway legend will perform at the Times Square hotspot 54 Below on New Year's Eve for a special concert engagement. Appearing with her longtime trio, music director Michael Croiter, Michael Patrick Walker and Jim Donica, Rivera will play two performances at 7:00PM and 11:00PM before the ball drops.

Rivera is one of the most recognizable actresses in the Broadway community. She made her debut in 1953 in Can-Can and has since gone on to enjoy a 60-year-long career on stage, her credits including West Side Story, Bye Bye Birdie, Chicago, The Rink, Jerry’s Girls, Kiss of the Spider Woman, Nine and The Mystery of Edwin Drood.

The recent Show People guest will be honored on October 7 by Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, which will present Chita: A Legendary Celebration, an original piece directed by Graciela Daniele and written by Terrence McNally, at the August Wilson Theatre. Rivera was awarded with Kennedy Center Honors in 2002 (becoming the first Hispanic to ever receive the coveted prize) and the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2009. She also served as Grand Marshal in this year’s National Puerto Rican Day Parade in New York.
