Picture This! Will Spider-Man, Turn Off the Dark Embark on an Arena Tour in 2016?

Here's what we already know: Spider-Man, Turn Off the Dark is set to close at Broadway's Foxwoods Theatre on January 4, 2014, and the spectacle-heavy show is set to take over Las Vegas. Here's what we didn't know: Spider-Man producer Michael Cohl wants to launch an arena tour for the rock musical.

According to Billboard.com, Cohl says that his plans for an arena tour, which are completely separate from the Las Vegas production, are coming closer and closer to fruition. "We’re much closer today than we were six months ago, in terms of what the design’s going to be like, what the show needs to be and getting to a point where we can start to budget," Cohl said. "I would expect it to be touring arenas by 2016."

As for Spider-Man's mounting in the Entertainment Capital of the World? Cohl told Billboard.com that he and his co-producers are "finishing up the right deal with the right people," including composers Bono and The Edge, and that they'll be making an announcement soon. "The show will change," he said. "New characters will come and others will be taken out, and the story will change slightly and there will probably be a couple of new songs."

Spider-Man, Turn Off the Dark follows the story of Peter Parker, whose ordinary teenage life takes a turn for the extraordinary when he’s bitten by a genetically altered spider and suddenly finds himself endowed with superpowers. Parker quickly learns that with great power comes great responsibility as he tries to juggle the demands of high school and home life, while battling the Green Goblin and his band of super villains. Peter must fight to save everything he holds dear, including the beautiful girl-next-door, Mary Jane.

The comic book-inspired show features music and lyrics by 22-time Grammy Award-winners Bono and The Edge, direction by Philip William McKinley, original direction by Tony Award winner Julie Taymor, and a book co-written by Taymor, Glen Berger and Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa.
