He's had 20 Broadway productions, and playwright Terrence McNally is still going strong! McNally’s Mothers and Sons, starring Tony winner Tyne Daly, Bobby Steggert and Frederick Weller, will celebrate its opening night on March 24. Directed by Sheryl Kaller, Mothers and Sons tells the story of a mother, who, 20 years after her son’s death, shows up at the door of his former lover, Cal, who is now married to a younger husband, Will.
To mark the play’s official opening, Broadway.com resident artist Justin “Squigs” Robertson created this portrait of the unexpected reunion.
Happy opening, Mothers and Sons! Enjoy your Oreos! (You'll get it when you see it.)
About the Artist: With a desire to celebrate the magic of live theater and those who create it, and with a deep reverence for such touchstones as the work of Al Hirschfeld and the wall at Sardi’s, Squigs is happy and grateful to be among those carrying on the traditions where theater and caricature meet. He was born and raised in Oregon, lived in Los Angeles for quite a long time and now calls New York City his home.
