After the U.K.’s National Theatre pulled the theatrical equivalent of a Beyoncé and opened Great Britain just days after it was announced with no preview period, Richard Bean’s play is swiftly transferring to the West End. Directed by Nicholas Hytner, the show will begin performances at the Theatre Royal Haymarket on September 10 and play a limited engagement through January 10.
The new play is an anarchic satire about the press, the police and the political establishment. Paige Britain is the ambitious young news editor of The Free Press, a tabloid newspaper locked in a never-ending battle for more readers.
No word yet on whether the National’s cast, which includes Billie Piper as Paige, will transfer with the show.
