Robin Givens will be Chicago's next star Roxie Hart, joining the New York production from January 16 through March 26, 2006. The engagement will mark Givens' Broadway debut.
After stints on sitcoms like The Cosby Show and Diff'rent Strokes, Givens received her first shot of fame in 1986 as one of the stars of the TV series Head of the Class. Although she may still be best known for her subsequent year-long marriage to boxer Mike Tyson, Givens has appeared in many films, including the well-received TV-movie The Women of Brewster Place and big screen offerings including A Rage in Harlem, Boomerang and Blankman. Other television credits include the series Angel Street, Courthouse, Sparks and Forgive or Forget.
Chicago currently stars Charlotte d'Amboise as Roxie Hart Brooke Shields assumes the role from September 9 through October 30, Luba Mason as Velma Kelly, Christopher McDonald as Billy Flynn, Debra Monk as Matron Mama Morton, Ray Bokhour as Amos Hart and R. Lowe as Mary Sunshine. D'Amboise is expected to return to the role of Roxie from October 31 through Given's arrival on January 16.
