Emma Brookner, a handicapped doctor struggling to increase medical studies on the then unidentified HIV virus during the early years of the AIDS epidemic.

A popular movie star thanks to turns in films like Diner, Sea of Love and Ocean’s Thirteen, Barkin has appeared frequently onstage including off-Broadway’s Extremities. The Normal Heart marks her Broadway debut.
