Gypsy is the landmark Broadway musical about a domineering mother in the early 20th Century who will do anything to make her young daughters Vaudeville stars. Inspired by the early life of stripper Gypsy Rose Lee, this new production is directed by George C. Wolfe and choreographed by Camille A. Brown, and is the musical that introduced the hit songs “Everything’s Coming Up Roses,” “Let Me Entertain You,“ and “You Gotta Get a Gimmick.”
"One of the best shows we ever saw. Audra was MAMA ROSE. Phenomenal. "

"The show is a classic for many reasons. Now add Audra McDonald, this cast, and the creative team and this cements how great this version of the show was. The crowd was electric and it was a show that you can’t wait for the next line, the next song."

"A highly entertaining musical for folks of all ages, including children. During the performance, my wife leaned over and whispered we have to bring our 9-year old granddaughter (an actor who dances and sing ) to see the show. As usual, Audra was phenomenal and makes the show."

"Audra is beyond amazing. The entire cast are also truly stellar. Each and every one. They all made this version of Gypsy their own. It was also wonderful to finally see a theatre production use the full depth and width of the stage again instead of relying on tired projections and minimal use of a huge blank canvas of a stage. It felt like good ol' Broadway once again. Wonderful sets, lighting, staging, scene changes and costumes. This is a must-see."

"This Gypsy didn't touch us. Everyone in the (albeit hardworking) cast tried their best, but tried too hard. We felt like they were always screaming at us.
We have been admirers of Ms. McDonald, but felt Gypsy is not a role for her, her voice unsuited to this role. (Again, we felt she was screaming "please love me in this role" all evening.)
Gypsy has a great score (Kudos to the orchestra), but does it really need to be revived again?
Sets and costumes were mid.
Unfortunately, this Gypsy left us unsatisfied."

"I wanted to LOVE this. After all, Audra McDonald, the Grande Dame of Broadway headlined. But, the guttural more earthy essence of Rose was lost in a beautifully refined and polished voice. Also, the second act fizzled. I know the ending notoriously has caused previous productions troubles. I hope they re-work it. I think with a keen eye to tweak and edit, this show could be so much more. I saw it during the first week of previews so there is plenty of time to make it shine! "
