This is not your Mama's mythology
"Absolutely spectacular show. Even if you lived and breathed Greek mythology, Hadestown is going to surprise and delight you. Gary Dourdan brings a rumbling menace to the role of Hades as he prowls around just out of sight but always watching, waiting, until the jaws of Hell itself open with a tip of the sunglasses. In the next moment, his despair and affection for Persephone bring tears streaming down your face. Gaby Moreno gives a radiance to Persephone that shines even brighter in the darkness of the Underworld and cannot help but draw its King ever closer. Her facial expressions are as open and honest as the spring itself, her voice a powerful magic that changes the entire theater and everyone within. The entire cast is exquisitely in love with their characters and it shows in every twist of the hips and smile at the musicians, whose talents are beyond words. This is without question one of the best live performances I've ever seen, and I can't get "Wait for Me" out of my head. I wish I could camp out at the theater and see the show every day. Being able to meet some of the cast at the stage door after the show was the highlight of my trip, especially being able to meet Mr. Dourdan, whose range was made even more apparent after a recent CSI rewatch. This is not a show you will forgive yourself for missing."

7th time seeing it
"This is the first time seeing it in New York but we have seen the touring company 6 times I believe and the live performance from the West End that was at the movie theater a couple weeks ago. This greek tragedy is the best performance. You could say its our favorite!"

A Modern Twist on a Classic Mythological Story
"This musical was beautifully crafted and there were moments when I had literal chills. I loved its underlying capitalism message and how it was interwoven into a classic tale. The set and choreography was brilliantly executed. The actors really brought to life! All in all, this is a 5 out of 5 for me and my daughter!"

Inventive and Original, even for a retelling!
"Hadestown offers the familiarity of Greek mythology while bringing a fresh take on the retelling. The talent, design, and creativity is stunning. The costuming and choreography are effective and bring the visuals to life so vividly. I would recommend this show for almost anyone, but think the topic may be just slightly complex for some children. "

My favorite part of my first visit to NYC!
"Powerful, energetic, emotional, and insanely moving production I didn’t expect! I went in blind, as opposed to my daughter who can recite it lyric by lyric. I’m pretty sure she watched my reactions more than she did the show. I want to see it again! Brandon Cameron as Orpheus was phenomenal. "

A Hauntingly Beautiful Experience That Blew Me Away
"Hadestown was an unforgettable experience. Unlike many musicals that rely on frequent set changes and elaborate scenery to elevate the production, this show places almost the entire responsibility on its performers—and they do far more than deliver. They exceed every expectation.
The story is hauntingly beautiful, but the singing is what truly left me speechless. Every voice, every emotion, and every moment felt incredibly powerful. It was spectacular from beginning to end and honestly blew my mind."

You had us at Hermes
"My daughter and I attended this past week—outstanding! Every seat in the theatre felt intimate and made you part of the story. Hermes narration made the show understandable even for those not familiar with the Greek tragedy. The score was engaging and I enjoyed the parallels to old New Orleans krewe. Thank you for the talent and classical history lesson. It was more than we expected. "

About
Hadestown
Welcome to Hadestown, where a song can change your fate. This acclaimed new musical by celebrated singer-songwriter Anaïs Mitchell and innovative director Rachel Chavkin (Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812) is a love story for today… and always.
Hadestown intertwines two mythic tales—that of young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and that of King Hades and his wife Persephone—as it invites you on a hell-raising journey to the underworld and back. Mitchell’s beguiling melodies and Chavkin’s poetic imagination pit industry against nature, doubt against faith, and fear against love. Performed by a vibrant ensemble of actors, singers, dancers, and musicians, Hadestown is a haunting and hopeful theatrical experience that grabs you and never lets go.
