Speech & Debate Story

A brand new black comedy, Speech & Debate explores the relationships between three outcast high school students—one an aspiring newspaper reporter, one a drama-queen blogger and one a new student tied to a sex scandal that will rock their town. Through this unexpected chain of events, the trio of misfits realize that three voices are stronger than one. And since their school has no speech and debate squad, forming one may be their chance to be heard at last. Playwright Stephen Karam is a co-writer of columbinus, which ran off-Broadway last season and for which he received a 2006 Helen Hayes Award nomination. Speech & Debate inaugurates Roundabout Theatre Company's newest performance space, a 62-seat black box theater at the company's Laura Pels Theatre. *Please note: Seating for this production will be general admission.
