Very moving and involving
"The show is quite emotional so be prepared for that. It’s well acted but approximately 15-20 too long. The leads are both excellent. "

Adrian Brody is a National Treasure!
"Adrian Brody and Tessa Thompson are brilliant together. I hope there's a movie in their future together. The play was dramatic, funny. Sad, heartwrenching, entertaining and amazing on all counts. Wonderful support cast headlined by 2 powerful actors. Absolutely the BEST play I have ever seen on Broadway. What a delight, and I 100% recommend everyone see it with this amazing original cast!"

Excellent performance
"Performance was excellent. Adrian Brody is spectacular. Emotional show but also some extremely witty and humorous moments to balance a very powerful script. Only complaint has nothing to do with actual show but the seats. We were last row in balcony and could not see anything without sitting on top of our seats when folded up. The theater provided cushions (think adult booster seats) but they really didn’t help. I would definitely recommend spending the extra money to sit closer than balcony if you are able. "

This is why you want to see a show live
"Actors who react to the audience, a limited cast with multiple roles that actually help the structure of the story, and a scenarisation that is lively, simple, and reinforces the actors' acting. Go see it. "

Outstanding acting! Brilliantly written!
"The story is universal and yet focuses on one man, one woman and the powerful love between them that cannot last the test of time. At the core is a magnified look at the criminal justice system's impact on both of their lives. The musical landscape echos a specific moment in time - the 1970's. The staging - the harshness of the insides of a prison - the echoing sounds add to a gut punch which I felt grow throughout the performance. I didn't know the story before going to this show but I wanted to see Brody's stage performance. He's my very fav actor. My friend and I had the discount seats with no leg room and a terrible sight line. During the performance none of this mattered. I was inside a prison fighting for Yarris freedom (and everyone else). The play has stayed with me and has elevated my commitment to fight this our flawed system which continues to execute innocent people. Wow!! if a play can do this - it is a winner."

Powerful, moving. Incredibly well acted.
" It was a troubling story but done with integrity and power. We need to look at humanity in all its forms - and do better. This could inspire that. And a love of acting, hope and relationships."

Tragically beautiful
"This play hits for many reasons! But the biggest is it shines a much needed light on how we need a complete overhaul of our “justice” system. Adrienne and Tessa are magic! As is the rest of the cast! Go see!"

Superb
"If you are in need of a play with great actors and solid story, this is for you. It's not a musical but full of impressive dialog, acting and creative set design. Even though it is long and we are told "it's a quiet play", time passes so quickly. Adrien Brody and Tessa Thompson are flawless. Every line is delivered with perfection. Every scene is enthralling. "Adrian Brody and Tessa Thompson were incredible! The story is common, yet unfortunate, and they helped bring it to life. Humor was added and that helped to balance the mood in the theatre. It is a must see!"

Very interesting.
"As someone who has spent 30+ years working in the criminal justice system I found the story to be extremely interesting. As was pointed out a few times, "yes, this really happened" which is head shaking. As an audience member, the voices could have been a little louder. It was difficult to hear at times. "

About The Fear of 13

The Fear of 13 tells the extraordinary true story of Nick Yarris, who spends more than two decades on death row for a murder he insists he did not commit. Through a series of prison visits with a volunteer named Jackie, Nick traces a life shaped by impulse and consequence. As Nick and Jackie’s conversations deepen, the line between witness and participant blurs, forcing both to confront what justice demands, what belief requires, and the perilous distance between true freedom and the illusion of self- determination. By turns devastating, darkly funny, and life-affirming, The Fear of 13 is a powerful exploration of truth and trust, conscience and connection.
