The Broadway premiere of David Mamet’s 1992 play Oleanna will close on January 3. At the time of its closing, the production, directed by Doug Hughes and starring Julia Stiles (in her Broadway debut) and Bill Pullman, will have played 15 previews and 97 performances at the Golden Theatre.
“On behalf of the producers, we’re thrilled to have brought David Mamet’s brilliant play to Broadway with this amazing cast under Doug Hughes’ innovative direction,” producer Jeffrey Finn said in a statement. “From our initial opening in Los Angeles, we’re proud of the work that we were able to bring to New York as Oleanna first Broadway production. We’ve had great audiences since September, and as our sales are concentrated through the holidays; January feels like the right time to end.”
This production of Oleanna , which centers on a power struggle between a self-absorbed college professor and his troubled student, opened to at the Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles in June before landing on Broadway on September 29.
The Broadway production of the show features design by Neil Patel, costume design by Catherine Zuber, lighting design by Donald Holder and fight direction by Rick Sordelet.
