In what is already being hailed as the theatrical event of the season, the first of three parts in Horton Foote’s Orphans’ Home Cycle has made its debut at Signature Theatre Company. This massive undertaking, involving nine plays and 22 actors playing multiple roles, follows Horace Robedaux (a character based on the late playwright’s father) from 1902, when his alcoholic father dies in Harrison, Texas, to 1928. On November 19, the initial chapter—consisting of Roots in a Parched Ground, Convicts and Lily Dale—opened, and after the riveting three-hour performance, the company and guests walked a couple of blocks east to celebrate at West Bank Cafe. Don’t miss this opportunity to enter the magical world of Horton Foote in part one of The Orphans' Home Cycle!
