Sean Mathias’ hit production of Samuel Beckett’s Waiting for Godot is returning to the West End. Ian McKellen and Ronald Pickup, will return with the production as Estragon and Lucky, respectively. They will be joined by Roger Rees as Vladimir and Matthew Kelly as Pozzo. The revival will once again play the Theatre Royal Haymarket, where it will begin performances on January 21. Opening night is set for January 27.
Beckett’s classic play follows two consecutive days in the lives of Vladimir and Estragon, who divert themselves by clowning around, joking and arguing, while waiting expectantly and unsuccessfully for the mysterious Godot.
Waiting for Godot was the first production in Sean Mathias’ season as artistic director of the Theatre Royal Haymarket Company. His production of Breakfast at Tiffany’s with Anna Friel and Joseph Cross will complete its run on January 9, 2010.
Waiting for Godot features designs by Stephen Brimson Lewis, lighting by Paul Pyant and sound by Paul Groothuis. The11-week run of the production will end on April 3, 2010.
