New Musical Yank! to March to Broadway

Bobby Steggert & Jeffry Denman in 'Yank!'

The new musical 'Yank!' is eyeing a Broadway transfer.

The new musical Yank!, currently running at the York Theatre Company through April 3, will march onto Broadway during the 2010-2011 season. The show, directed by Igor Goldin and starring Ragtime alum Bobby Steggert and The Fantasticks veteran Ivan Hernandez as American soldiers who fall in love during World War II, began its sellout off-Broadway engagement on February 24. No dates, casting or theater have been announced for the Broadway transfer.

Yank! features music by Joe Zellnik and book and lyrics by his brother David Zellnik. The show is set at a time before "don't ask, don't tell" became military policy. The York production also features Nancy Anderson and Jeffry Denman in leading roles.

Broadway producers include Pamela Koslow, Karl Held and Stuart Wilk.
