The tribute band Rain, which has been touring the country for almost 30 years performing the biggest hits of the Beatles, will play an 11-week engagement at Broadway’s Neil Simon Theatre this fall. Rain: A Tribute to the Beatles on Broadway will begin previews on October 19 and run through January 2, 2011. Opening night has been set for October 26.
The creators of Rain include Beatlemania vets Joey Curatolo (vocals, bass, guitar, piano), Joe Bithorn (vocals, lead guitar, guitar synthesizer), Ralph Castelli (vocals, drums, percussion) and Steve Landes (vocals, guitar, piano, harmonica), plus Mark Lewis (keyboards, percussion). At certain performances the concert will also feature Graham Alexander, Mark Beyer, Joe Bologna, Doug Cox, Jim Irizarry, David Leon, Jimmy Pou, Mac Ruffing and Tom Teeley.
With the goal of delivering a perfect note-for-note performance, Rain performs the music of the Beatles live, “with the same respect a classical musician treats Mozart.” The Broadway show will cover songs ranging from the early days of the band's appearances on The Ed Sullivan Show through the Abbey Road years. The concert includes historical film footage and television commercials, plus live cameras zooming in for close-ups of the band. The show presents the kind of show fans didn't get to see in real life, as the Beatles' final concert tour in 1966 pre-dated such iconic releases at Sgt. Pepper, The White Album and Abbey Road.
Included in the show are beloved songs such as “I Want To Hold Your Hand,” “A Hard Day’s Night,” “Yesterday,” “Twist and Shout,” With A Little Help from My Friends,” “Eleanor Rigby,” “Strawberry Fields,” “While My Guitar Gently Weeps,” “Hey Jude,” “When I’m 64,” “I Am the Walrus,” “Revolution” and “Come Together.”
Rain is presented on Broadway by Annerin Productions, Magic Arts & Entertainment/Tix Productions and Nederlander Presentations, Inc.
