Anna-Jane Casey has signed on to star as answering service operator Ella Peterson in a London revival of the classic musical Bells Are Ringing. Performances will begin on September 29 at the Union Theatre, with opening night set for October 1, directed by Paul Foster.
Casey, star of London productions of Chicago, Piaf, Sunday in the Park with George and Mack and Mabel, will be joined by Gary Milner (Parade, Evita, A Streetcar Named Desire) in a cast of 15. Featuring a score by Jule Styne and book by Betty Comden and Adolph Green, Bells Are Ringing centers on a busybody answering service operator whose little white lies come back to haunt her after she falls for a client, hard-drinking playwright Jeff Moss. The lead roles were created on Broadway by Tony winners Judy Holliday and Sydney Chaplin and played in the movie version by Holliday and Dean Martin.
Bells Are Ringing will feature set and costume design by Christopher Giles, choreography by Alistair David, lighting design by Tim Mascall and musical direction by Peter McCarthy.
The Union Theatre is an intimate fringe theater in Southwark, London, housed in a converted paper warehouse beneath railway arches.
