How much do we love They’re Playing Our Song? So much! And to judge by the cheering crowd that packed the Actors Fund benefit performance on August 30, we’re not the only ones. Tony winner Sutton Foster and musical maven/radio host Seth Rudetsky morphed into Sonia Walsk and Vernon Gersch for this rare NYC rendition of the beloved 1979 musical hit about a lovably neurotic songwriting team. And on the aisle, leading the applause, were the unforgettable original stars of the show, Lucie Arnaz and Robert Klein! After the performance at John Jay College’s Gerald W. Lynch Theater, the stars and guests mingled and posed for photos. Then we went home and contemplated (not for the first time) how much we’d love to see a full production of this heavenly collaboration between Marvin Hamlisch (music), Carole Bayer Sager (lyrics) and Neil Simon (book). Oh god, I praaaaaying…they’ll be playing…our song!
