The fantastic sights and sounds of 'Wonderland' will fill the Marquis Theatre this spring.

The previously announced Broadway production of Wonderland will call the Marquis Theatre home when previews for the musical begin on March 21, 2011. Opening night for this updated twist of Alice in Wonderland is set for April 17. Gregory Boyd will direct the musical, which features music by Frank Wildhorn, lyrics by Jack Murphy and a book Boyd and Murphy. The show will also feature choreography by Marguerite Derricks. No casting or design team has been announced at this time.

Wonderland tells the story of a new Alice who is estranged from her husband, alienated from her daughter and in danger of losing her career. Alice finds herself in Wonderland where she encounters strange though familiar characters that help her rediscover the wonder in her life.

The musical is the first production of the Broadway Genesis Project, an initiative by Tampa's Straz Center for the Performing Arts, to develop and prepare new musical theater for Broadway. The show received its world premeiere at the theater in December 2009 (with In the Heights star Janet Dacal in the title role) and will return for a pre-Broadway engagement January 4-16, 2011.
