Oscar nominee Mare Winningham (Georgia, Atlantic Theater’s 10 Million Miles), two-time Tony nominee Lois Smith (Buried Child, The Grapes of Wrath, TV’s True Blood) and Tony nominee Peter Friedman (Ragtime, Circle Mirror Transformation) are among the complete cast for Playwrights Horizons’ upcoming New York premiere of After the Revolution, a new play by Amy Herzog. The production will begin previews on October 21 and open on November 9 at the Peter Jay Sharp Theatre, directed by Carolyn Cantor. The limited engagement is scheduled to play through November 28.
In addition to Winningham, Smith and Friedman, After the Revolution will feature Mark Blum ( Twelve Angry Men, TV’s The Good Wife), Meredith Holzman, David Margulies (Chasing Manet, TV’s The Sopranos), Katharine Powell (The Farnsworth Invention, The Voysey Inheritance) and Elliot Villar (Coraline, The Brothers Size). The entire cast appeared together in the play’s world premiere production at Williamstown Theatre Festival in July.
In After the Revolution, the brilliant, promising Emma Joseph (Powell) proudly carries the torch of her family’s Marxist tradition, devoting her life to the memory of her blacklisted grandfather. But when history reveals a shocking truth about the man himself, the entire family is forced to confront questions of honesty and allegiance they thought had been resolved.
The production will feature scenic design by Clint Ramos, costume design by Kaye Voyce, lighting design by Ben Stanton and sound design by Fitz Patton. Production Stage Manager is Hannah Cohen.
