Lisa Kron’s new play In the Wake is in rehearsal at the Public Theater, and Broadway.com got to take a peek at this work in progress before previews begin on October 19. The story begins at Thanksgiving of 2000, that long post-election dead zone before George W. Bush is declared President. Lead character Ellen (Tony nominee Marin Ireland) insists that her friends and family don’t understand how bad the situation really is, and her story of personal upheaval unfolds amid the turmoil of modern American politics. The play features five strong female characters, directed by Leigh Silverman, who helmed the Public's acclaimed production of Kron's Well, which later transferred to Broadway.
