Anyone who knows the classic film Brief Encounter remembers the star-crossed love story at its center: two married people fall madly in love with each other in a train station, but are torn apart by the social mores of 1930s England. Now on Broadway, a new British import reimagines the film—and the Noel Coward play on which it was based—using music, dance, film clips, projections and even puppets. It's the first opening of the new season, and the first review from our new Word of Mouth panel. We sent three of our new real-people critics—teacher Emilie, human resources exec Ameil and retired dance professional David—to the show to find out if they fell as madly in love as leading characters Alec and Laura.
